This month Professor Ippei Yamazawa, ASCJfs former Secretary, is awarded an Order of Sacred Treasure by the Emperor for his long time contribution to Asia Pacific Cooperation study. We would like to share with all ASCC colleagues this encouragement to academic contribution to APEC.

The APEC 2013 meeting has been started on 6 and 7 December 2012 (ISOM). The ASCC Meeting in Indonesia will be held around July 2013. The main agenda is:

Theme: Resilience Asia-Pacific: Engine of Global Growth

and the specific agendas are:
1) Attaining Bogor Goals
2) Sustaining growth with equity (sustainable and inclusive growth)
3) Promoting connectivity

July 28, 2011 Ippei Yamazawa, ASCJ Secretary, received the Foreign Ministerfs commendation for his contribution to the Pacific cooperation study including PECC and APEC over forty years.
June 16, 2011 Thur. 14:00-15:50 The First APEC Dialogue
Exchange of information and opinion between ASCJ members and APEC Office staffs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Ministry of Economy, Industry, and International Trade (METI). It was held in a meeting room of MOFA. 8 ASCJ members and 9~10 MOFA and METI officials participated. The following reports were delivered by the two ministries on MRT meeting in Montana, late May 2011.
1. Achievements of MRT: regional economic integration, green growth, structural reform, disaster prevention, government-private partnership.
2. Current state of the negotiation in WTO?DDA and Trans-Pacific Partnership, and Japanfs stance
3. Leadersf meeting in Honolulu and prospect for 2012.
One ASCJ member asked further elaboration of the new IAP peer review process toward the Bogor Goals in 2020 and others concentrated on the TPP negotiation under the US initiative, need for lower the admission condition so as to include other Asian economies, and conflict with domestic interests. One expressed his wish for the US to communicate with China.
The second APEC Dialogue will be organized after the Leadersf week in November.
