Objectives, Activities, Organization, and Management

1.      APEC Study Center Japan (ASCJ) is a cooperative network organized by individual academics who are interested in the Asia Pacific cooperation and APEC’s role and activities in it. Shujiro Urata serves as its Representative and Hikari Ishido as its Secretary. Ippei Yamazawa takes Ishido’s place while Ishido is out of country until September 2011.

2.      ASCJ’s activities cover exchange of information, research cooperation, education and public dissemination regarding the Asia Pacific cooperation and APEC, as well as members’ participation in ASC International Consortium conference. It serves as the contact within Japan with ASCs in other APEC economies, APEC Secretariat in Singapore, APEC offices of MOFA and METI, ABAC Japan Secretariat, and PECC Japan Committee.

3.      APEC Study Center Japan Consortium (ASCJC) of 10 universities and 2 research institutes was active for 1995-2001 but stopped its activities for the past decade except for occasional contact with ASCs abroad. ASCJC was disbanded and ASCJ takes its function of the contact in Japan.

4.      Communications among members are mainly conducted by internet, while meetings are held by relevant members when necessary. ASCJ Homepage is set up by Secretary in order to update notification and  disseminate research output.

5.      APEC-related materials are provided for public reading and lending at the IDE-satellite room in the Business Library/ JETRO Main Office in Tokyo. Members are welcome both to reading/lending and contributing research results.
